Acupuncture is a gentle form of healing where very fine needles are inserted in special points along meridians (energy pathways in the body) in order to harness the body’s natural healing system.
When the needles are inserted, sensations of numbness, tingling, or pressure may be felt. Many patients feel immediate relief of pain or tension and reach a deep relaxed state during treatment, often falling asleep.
Studies show that acupuncture has a strong regulatory effect on the body at many levels, from the brain and central nervous system to the function of organs, to the tension of an individual muscle. This capacity of acupuncture to balance regulation gives illumination as to why studies place acupuncture at the highest level of effectiveness in treating complex health conditions, especially pain.
